Pigmentation, or melasma, is light-brown or dark-brown patchy discoloration of the skin on the face or body. Pigment is usually located in the basal stratum of the superficial layer of the skin (epidermis), but sometimes in the deep layers of the skin (derma). Commonly, the problem is caused by hormonal changes, such as pregnancy or taking contraceptives. However, the primary cause of the problem is solar radiation; therefore melasma occurs more often in spring or summer.
Solutions:
IPL Photorejuvenation is one of the most effective methods to remove pigmentation spots; it is based on selective photo stimulation of collagen synthesis. A photo impulse reaches even the deepest layers of the skin. In a couple of days after the treatment, the unwanted pigmentation “surfaces” and peels off. Photorejuvenation produces even better results when combined with chemical peels. This will smooth and improve the skin texture.
Chemical peels are an effective method to remove superficial and recently developed pigmented spots.
